The national toll cut off at 6:30 p.m. on August 15 lists 289 dead, 3,937 injured, 143 missing and 353 rescued. UNGRD counts 54,382 families and 117,222 people affected across 15 departments and 448 municipalities.
A revised human toll
The 6:30 a.m. cutoff listed 294 dead, 3,935 injured, 320 missing and 353 rescued. UNGRD has not publicly explained the lower death and missing counts, so the two snapshots remain separate.
Homes and buildings
The agency counts 81,536 damaged homes, 14,705 destroyed homes and 66 collapsed buildings. It also reports 234 health centres, 2,535 schools and 3,782 community centres affected.
Roads, water and transport
The report lists 308 roads, 62 aqueducts, 44 road bridges, five pedestrian bridges and five airports affected. These are national figures at 6:30 p.m., not a final assessment.
Animals in the toll
UNGRD records 205 animals rescued and 754 affected. Reuters earlier reported around 290 dead, 140 missing and nearly 4,000 injured, similar orders of magnitude with a different reference time.
