In Cali, Lenny’s family told AFP that she protected her dog Salomón during the collapse caused by the August 10 earthquake. Lenny died and the dog was found alive.
An account attributed to the family
The circumstances were described by her brother Michael Ruiz and sister-in-law Jessica Florez. They are not presented as an official reconstruction.
An elderly blind dog
Salomón is twelve years old. According to the family, he is blind because of epilepsy and was particularly dependent on Lenny.
Found near her body
Michael Ruiz says he found the dog near his sister’s body. Jessica Florez says Salomón was later brought near the coffin.
Animals in the disaster
UNGRD counted 205 animals rescued at the August 15 6:30 p.m. cutoff, without identifying Salomón in that total.
