Cali: mayor reports 74 deaths, 88 rescued and more than 150 missing

The city remains under a hospital red alert

The hospital red alert remains in force. The city reports the complete closure of Clínica Nuestra and Sanitas de la Roosevelt because of major structural damage, and partial service closures at Hospital Universitario del Valle and Clínica Colombia.

The Washington Post reports that a six-storey wing of Hospital Universitario del Valle collapsed on Monday. A hospital official cited by the newspaper said five people, including a child, were rescued; a 56-year-old patient remained missing on Tuesday evening.

More than 90% of electricity normalised

Emcali, quoted in the municipal report, said electricity had been normalised across more than 90% of Cali. Crews were still working on the Vergel, Cencar and Mojica circuits, which serve 12,000 people.

The percentage describes a partial citywide recovery, not full restoration. The report provides no new quantified status for water or telecommunications.

Two shelters and Ciudadela Petronio

At 9:14 p.m., the city announced two temporary shelters: the Miguel Calero hockey court at Calle 9 No. 37-00 and the northern metropolitan coliseum’s covered Chiminangos court.

The city had also announced at 8:57 p.m. that Ciudadela Petronio was opening to support families, without listing every available service in the post reviewed.

Municipal tolls still need consolidation

The municipal figure of 74 deaths at 7:30 p.m. differs from the 95 deaths attributed to Cali in Asocapitales’ 4 p.m. report. No official explanation reviewed yet reconciles the two records.

Next priorities include searching for people who remain missing, assessing hospitals, restoring the three circuits and confirming shelter capacity.

Four more people rescued in the municipal update

In an official statement published on August 12 at 12:59 p.m., Mayor Alejandro Eder reports 88 people rescued, 74 dead and more than 150 still missing in Cali. Compared with the municipal report cut off at 7:30 p.m. the previous day, the number of deaths is unchanged and the number rescued rises from 84 to 88.

The figure of more than 150 missing people is a municipal count attributed to the mayor. It does not replace the UNGRD national toll or other territorial records. Eder describes the next twenty hours as vital for the search and asks the public to let rescue teams work, without guaranteeing that another person will be found alive.

Temporary sites announced to maintain care

At 9:16 p.m., Cali’s mayor’s office said the national government would allocate resources to rebuild HUV and rent temporary premises to prevent an interruption in care. The post gives no amount, construction timetable or addresses for the temporary sites.
