Mapping activation
To address the scale of the destruction, the Mesa Geomática, led by the UNGRD, mobilizes several partner entities. This collaboration includes the International Charter, NASA DRCS, IGAC, FAC, UNDP, and INDRA, working together to provide precise visual data of the affected areas.
Satellite image processing
UNGRD says 166 high-definition satellite images have been processed. Airbus supplied very detailed views of Cali, Cartago, Manizales and Pereira. These data complement field observations but do not by themselves constitute a final damage inventory.
Aerial reconnaissance flights
In addition to satellites, aerial photographs were prioritized in 85 municipalities. The flyover and collection of these images have already been completed in 13 municipalities across the departments of Valle del Cauca, Chocó, Risaralda, Caldas, and Quindío.
Objectives of the imagery
UNGRD presents the imagery as support for identifying damage to homes, roads, infrastructure and essential services. It is neither a final damage assessment nor a repair programme.
