One week after the earthquake, the response must also absorb the effects of rain. Authorities are maintaining shelters in Pereira and organising a temporary response in Valle del Cauca as RTVC reports several weather impacts in already weakened areas.
More than 1,300 people and animals in Pereira
The municipal report posted at 12:23 p.m., with figures as of August 16, lists 743 adults, 97 older adults, 319 young people, 120 children, 43 people with disabilities, eight pregnant women and five breastfeeding mothers. It also includes 54 dogs and ten cats.
Eight sites provide food, hygiene, health care, veterinary care and children’s spaces: Mora Mora, El Vergel, the Menor and Mayor coliseums, Villa Olímpica, Parque El Oso, Robledo Mejía and Parque Industrial.
Rain, high surf and vulnerable structures
RTVC reports flooding in Quibdó, high surf in Juanchaco and Ladrilleros and rain affecting temporary facilities in Pereira. The outlet also says weakened homes gave way in Roldanillo.
The 3:30 p.m. report gives no precise time for each incident. They therefore remain attributed to that report rather than being moved to the collection time.
Spaces and transport remain available
At 6:38 p.m., Pereira says spaces remain available with food, care, hygiene items and support. Transport to shelters is announced as available around the clock; no number of spaces is published.
Coordination in Valle del Cauca
At 8:01 p.m., UNGRD announces coordination with humanitarian organisations and local authorities to identify families needing temporary shelter. The planned response includes food, medical care, psychosocial support and hygiene kits, without a beneficiary total.
