Colombia’s presidency outlined a series of health measures for Buenaventura on August 16, where the Luis Ablanque and Santa Sofía facilities were damaged. More than 260 kilograms of medicines, supplies and medical devices had been sent, while Civil Defence tents were providing 24 beds.
Supplies and surgical support
Authorities say the National Health Institute coordinated surgeons from Bogotá to support ESE Luis Ablanque. Patients requiring complex care are being transferred to other departments.
Twenty-four beds in temporary structures
Civil Defence tents provide 24 beds in response to damage at Luis Ablanque and Santa Sofía. Further tents and supplies were announced without an additional quantity or schedule.
Repairs promised without a published budget
The government promises work on ESE Luis Ablanque’s governance and financial viability as well as repairs. It also announces basic health teams, first- and second-level care and referrals for complex cases. No repair budget or deadline is given.
Aqueduct action remains an undetailed commitment
The president also promised to address the aqueduct with MinVivienda. The announcement does not state the current service condition, population served, budget or timeline. The Benkos Biohó hospital ship, operating since August 14, is a separate measure.
