A private initiative is emerging for educational institutions in Chocó. EFE reports that Shakira will devote efforts to the Technological University of Chocó and that Howard G. Buffett will help build ten new schools through Fundación Pies Descalzos.

Two commitments in different forms

Shakira links her personal commitment to rebuilding the Technological University of Chocó. Howard G. Buffett is associated, through Fundación Pies Descalzos, with ten new schools in the department.

The source publishes neither a list of the ten institutions nor the selected municipalities.

One million dollars announced

Global Citizen and Live Nation each announce US$500,000, a total of US$1 million, to rebuild destroyed schools. The article documents no transfer, managing body or disbursement.

A visit to Quibdó

EFE says Shakira visited affected parts of Quibdó and the Colegio Tecnológico Industrial Carrasquilla with Governor Nubia Carolina Córdoba. The visit does not mean construction has begun.

A broader appeal

The artist calls on Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, the private sector and foundations to contribute. The next verifiable elements will be formal agreements, the timetable, beneficiary schools and initial construction.
