The National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) released a new update of its provisional national toll. According to data with a cutoff of August 14 at 06:30, published at 07:24, the events have caused the deaths of 285 people.
Human toll
The official report indicates that 102,263 people, comprising 45,523 families, are directly affected by the disaster. The human toll records 285 confirmed deaths, 379 people still missing, and 354 individuals rescued. Authorities also count 3,975 injured, a figure reported without interpretation compared to previous tolls.
Impact on housing
UNGRD records 73,455 damaged homes and 12,828 destroyed homes in the affected areas. The same toll also lists 121 collapsed buildings, without stating their occupancy status or related relocation needs in that publication.
Public infrastructure and services
The public sector has suffered extensive damage. The data lists impacts on 2,205 educational facilities, 1,208 community centers, and 240 health centers. Regarding transportation networks and essential services, 210 roads, 44 vehicular bridges, 13 footbridges, 5 airports, and 73 aqueducts show damage.
Geographical scope and animals
The affected area covers 15 departments and encompasses 426 municipalities, an unchanged perimeter compared to the August 13 cutoff at 22:30. Field teams also rescued 169 animals, while another 247 are reported as affected by the disaster.
Two successive updates
The August 13 update with a 10:30 p.m. cutoff recorded 284 deaths, 3,977 injured, 379 missing, 354 rescued, 71,763 damaged homes and 12,597 destroyed homes. At 6:30 a.m., deaths rose to 285 while the published injured count was 3,975. UNGRD gives no explanation for that variation: both updates are retained with their reference time and should not be subtracted to reconstruct individual cases.
