UNGRD’s new national report, as of 6:30 a.m. on August 18, raises the registered death toll after the earthquake to 304. It describes an emergency spanning 472 municipalities and keeps people, housing, public services and animals as separate indicators.
A human toll that remains provisional
The agency lists 4,548 injured, 426 missing and 356 rescued. The previously integrated report, as of 6:30 p.m. August 16, recorded 287 deaths, 4,147 injured, 194 missing and 355 rescued; the difference reflects a new consolidation rather than the time each case occurred.
More than 292,000 people affected
The national scope covers 15 departments and 472 municipalities. UNGRD lists 123,789 families, or 292,043 affected people.
Homes and buildings
The report lists 134,342 damaged homes, 29,554 destroyed homes and 267 collapsed buildings. The categories remain separate to avoid adding indicators that may overlap.
Services and access
UNGRD reports effects on 303 health centres, 3,443 educational facilities, 3,905 community centres, 413 roads, 86 aqueducts, 49 vehicle bridges, 13 footbridges and five airports. It also lists 496 animals rescued and 1,323 affected.
